For many years, the Breakers trained and hosted competitions in Centennial Pool. While the facility played an enormous role in the club's history, its age and size increasingly limited what the club could offer.

By 2018, Breakers leadership was publicly advocating for a new aquatic facility in Saugeen Shores. At the time, Centennial Pool was more than four decades old, and its five-lane, 25-metre pool and limited spectator facilities made hosting larger competitive meets increasingly difficult.

The vision for a new aquatic facility eventually became a reality.

In 2025, the Breakers made a significant contribution toward the new Aquatic and Wellness Centre in Port Elgin, donating nearly $200,000 toward electronic pool timing equipment. The contribution covered approximately 75 percent of the cost of the timing system and reflected the club's commitment not only to its swimmers, but to the future of competitive swimming in Saugeen Shores.

The new facility represented an important transition for the club: from a small, aging community pool to a modern aquatic centre capable of supporting training, competition and major swim meets.

The Pryde Aquatic & Wellness Centre

In January 2026, the Pryde Aquatic & Wellness Centre officially opened in Port Elgin.

The new facility includes an eight-lane, 25-metre competition pool and was designed to serve as a regional hub for recreation, wellness and sport. The Breakers were part of the opening celebrations, including a time trial during the grand-opening weekend.

The move to the new facility marks one of the most significant milestones in Breakers history.

The club now has the opportunity to train and compete in a facility designed to support competitive swimming at a much higher level, while continuing to welcome swimmers from across Saugeen Shores and the surrounding communities.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

The closing of Centennial Pool in January 2026 marked the end of an important chapter. For more than 50 years, it had been the place where countless swimmers learned, trained, competed and grew.

But the closing of Centennial Pool was not the end of the Breakers story.

It was the beginning of a new chapter.

Today, the Breakers Swim Team continues to build on the traditions established by generations of swimmers, coaches and families. The club remains committed to developing swimmers, encouraging lifelong participation in the sport, supporting competitive excellence and creating a strong sense of community.

From the first swimmers who walked onto the deck at Centennial Pool to the athletes now training in an eight-lane competition pool at the Pryde Aquatic & Wellness Centre, the Breakers legacy continues.
